1. About the ‘Kidilan Muthassi’ Team
Initially, it wasn’t a team — the channel started solely with Muthassi (Grandmother). Over time, it evolved into a team, with her children and grandchildren joining in to support and collaborate with her.
2. Inspiration Behind Starting the Channel

Muthassi always had a deep passion for cooking and catering. She’s been running her catering business for 16–17 years. She had a strong desire to share her cooking secrets and experiences with others, but there was no platform to do so earlier. Despite her age, Muthassi is quite tech-savvy and familiar with using YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook. Realizing that YouTube could help fulfill her dream, she expressed this to her grandchildren. Initially, her granddaughter Maya couldn’t proceed due to work commitments. But after the COVID lockdown, the channel was finally launched — fulfilling Muthassi’s dream, at her own request. At a time when many people were creating videos with the elderly, this idea came directly from Muthassi herself.
3. How Daily Life Changed After Starting the Channel
Most of the grandchildren in Muthassi’s household are working professionals, while Muthassi and her daughter used to spend most of their time at home. Although involved in catering and Kudumbashree (a women’s self-help group in Kerala), their days weren’t as full as they are now. Since starting the channel, they are constantly busy with new experiments and signature dishes. Their daily routine now includes prepping for the next video and content planning.
Her daughter Praseetha, who used to be a homemaker and occasionally worked in catering, now has no idle time. They receive numerous orders. For example, Muthassi once made over 1000 kg of pickled mango! Through the channel, they’ve also started selling hair oil, curry powders, and have gained a significant customer base.
4. Changes in Life
The biggest change is that Muthassi has become a recognizable face. Whether it’s children or adults — everyone runs up to her when they see her. Her “What I Eat in a Day” video became a massive hit. It’s heartwarming to hear that some children have started eating better after watching her food videos.
5. Challenges Faced
Muthassi loves singing and dancing. However, coming from an orthodox Brahmin family, she never had the opportunity to explore these interests. Now nearing her 72nd year, she has been able to live out these dreams through her grandchildren. Since she enjoys dancing, she even learns routines by writing them down and practicing all night.
The most hurtful part, however, has been the negative comments. Some accuse the family of using her for fame and money. But the reality is that everything is done based on her own wishes and interests. The channel grew rapidly, but not by exploiting her — rather by celebrating her passions.
6. Future Plans
They hope to continue in this same path — fulfilling Muthassi’s dreams as much as possible. Interestingly, she once received a movie offer for a Fahadh Faasil film but declined it due to costume-related concerns. That’s when they realized she also has an interest in acting. If suitable roles come up in the future, she would be interested. Their ultimate goal is to make “Kidilan Muthassi” a household name across all platforms.
7. Kidilan Muthassi as an Entrepreneur
Muthassi has been in the catering business for 16–17 years, although she has paused it recently due to health issues. She insists that food should be made by her own hands to maintain taste and quality. She’s known for preparing dishes like payasam (a traditional dessert) — having made up to 2000 liters on her own.
She uses machines only for processes like grating and squeezing coconuts. Breakfast items, snacks, and even large orders during temple seasons (like 1000 appams) are taken. She also makes preservative-free pickles like mango, lemon, gooseberry, and ambazhanga.
Her homemade hair oil — used by her for years — has been especially popular, with customers even claiming hair regrowth. Orders for this oil come from Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Andhra Pradesh, and other states. She also produces curry powders like thalippu podi, made by sun-drying ingredients like shallots and curry leaves.
8. Message to Loyal Followers
She hopes to continue receiving the same love and support. The family is committed to bringing fresh content regularly. One of her favorite sayings is: “Respect others’ interests.” If a 71-year-old woman wants to dance and post videos, that’s her joy — and it deserves respect.
If people adopt that mindset, negative comments and unnecessary questions would naturally fade away. That’s the belief she holds on to.
