Music is an art form that expresses the deepest emotions of the mind, without the need for words. From a young age, Anand’s life has flowed to the rhythm of music — a life-long journey filled with love for the guitar and an attraction to the piano.
Hailing from Kozhikode, music became an inseparable part of Anand’s life. His father, Sasikant, was a musician who taught him both the keyboard and the guitar. Music truly ran in his blood. Anand, who often accompanied his father, became actively involved in the music scene from 2009 onwards. When his father worked as a music teacher at CMI Institute, Anand also started teaching guitar there.
In 2016, he began offering online music classes — and turned the COVID crisis into an opportunity. During the lockdown, his classes started reaching people across the world. That success planted the seed of a dream: to start his own school. This gave wings to the idea of “Doremi Art School.”
It was an attempt to build a venture in his own name. Though he started conducting classes alone, the school now has six instructors specializing in violin, guitar, piano, and western vocals. Thanks to his 13 years of experience, Anand didn’t face the typical challenges of attracting students when the school launched. However, in today’s fast-paced world — where students expect results within a few months — finding academically oriented, hardworking students became a major challenge. Especially for instruments like Western violin, which take years before noticeable progress, finding committed learners is particularly difficult.
Once Anand realized the importance of marketing, he began showcasing his students’ achievements on Instagram. The academic year 2024–2025 brought several accolades. Under his guidance, students won first prizes in orchestra, western band (group events), and guitar (individual event) at the Kerala State School Arts Festival. He now focuses on promoting these milestones through social media. One standout achievement was the formation of “Euhonic” — Kerala’s first all-girls music band comprising young children, which garnered wide attention under his leadership.
Students travel weekly from Malappuram, Wayanad, Thrissur, and Kozhikode to attend classes. In addition, over 50 students from countries like the U.S. and Germany are learning under Anand through online sessions.
The day the school opened was also the night Anand’s father passed away — an unforgettable moment in his life. Since then, he has been nurturing the school with deep commitment, as a tribute to his father’s memory. Doremi Art School stands today as the embodiment of his father’s dream and Anand’s unwavering dedication.
Anand’s key business advice is to avoid setting high expectations in the beginning. For the first 3–4 months, there was very little business — but growth followed with time. Since salaries could only be paid once students joined, he moved forward with sincerity and patience, instead of giving up in disappointment. His musical journey is one of dedication, heritage, and a dream passed from one generation to the next.
